Abingdon MP meets with Royal Mail for explanation over postal delays

Postal delays have continued to affect the county and an MP met with senior figures from Royal Mail for an explanation.

Layla Moran, MP for Oxford West and Abingdon was receiving messages from concerned constituents about postal delays.

Ms Moran decided to meet with senior figures from Royal Mail to get an update on the problem.

Royal Mail told the MP the backlog of post dropped from 60,000 items to 7,500 items in the run up to Christmas Day.

Royal Mail added they have learnt lessons from the issues that occurred during the delivery round restructuring, and will use them in future to prevent this disruption again.

Ms Moran said: “I was very glad that Royal Mail met with me, and I was provided with an explanation of how these issues occurred, and what they are doing to prevent this happening again.”

She added: “I’m keeping on top of the situation and urge residents to let me know if it doesn’t improve soon.”

Postal delays have also affected people in Blackbird Leys, Headington, Wantage and Summertown this year. Many residents in these areas were angry at the lack of regular postal deliveries, with many citing the missing items and letters as time sensitive and important. Royal Mail apologised for the delays and explained it had been experiencing ‘resourcing issues’.
