Abingdon pharmacy faces lack of lateral flow tests as demand rises

Pharmacies are facing a lack of lateral flow tests as demand soars.

The chief executive of the Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies has said patients are often unable to find the Covid-19 tests in pharmacies because of low and “inconsistent” supplies.

A pharmacy in Abingdon has run out of lateral flow tests.

Pharmacist assistant Sam Lewis at Jhoots Pharmacy in Abingdon said today they had two deliveries and already the pharmacy is out of tests.

Mr Lewis said: “We have had a lot of people come in to get them, we had two deliveries today and we are out.”

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has said nearly 900,000 test kits are being provided per day – which is double the supply seen before December 18 – but Leyla Hannbeck said deliveries have been “patchy”.
