‘Absolutely gutted’, cry fans as popular Scots cafe closes for good

A POPULAR Scots cafe has announced its shock closure leaving punters “absolutely gutted”.

The Grumpy Chef in Inverness is known for its breakfast items, hot rolls, baked potatoes, wraps and quesadillas.

The Inverness cafe said it closed officially on Friday

But the shutters have been pulled down on the much-loved city centre eatery with a “heavy heart” after ten years.

Taking to social media, bosses told customers:  “With a heavy heart…

“We have decided to close the door.

“Our last day was Friday and we didn’t want to make any fuss about it.

“I know the question is going to be.. ‘why?’

“But we’ll get some words together between the 2 of us.

“Although, I’m sure I can say, on behalf of us both, thank you so so much!

“It’s been great to see our regulars and newbies, we missed you too. Stay grumpy.”

Gutted locals flocked to the comments to react to the disappointing news.

One wrote: “I’m absolutely GUTTED to see this.

Major high street retailer with 17 Scots stores to close ‘a THIRD’ of UK shops

“Need to get a wee trailer or van on the go. Pop up salad stops. Your salads are theee best and your grumpy banter even better. Keep believing guys.”

A second commented: “Oh no! I’m very sad to see you guys go.

“You guys did amazing! Wishing you the best!”

A third said: “I’m so sorry to see this guys I can’t imagine what a hard decision this was for you.”

A fourth added: “You did your best, thinking of you.”

It comes as Scotland’s hospitality and retail sectors continue to struggle, with both businesses and punters feeling the squeeze from rising costs.

The industry was hammered by closures during the Covid-19 pandemic and was immediately dealt another blow by supply issues and the cost of living crisis.
