Affordability Map: Where can you buy a home in the UK?

How do we collect this data?

Using Land Registry data (2024 HM Land Registry data for England and Wales, 2023 Land Register of Scotland data for Scotland), we calculate the average property price in each district. We then use our internal data, combined with housing stock data from the most recent census, to get the average property price by property size within each district. Using the methods described in the RIETI Discussion Paper, we then turn the average property price into information about what percentage of properties will be within the budget you provide.

Districts with fewer than 100 properties of a given size are marked as “limited data,” as only one or two homes may be available at a time.

Due to limited public data, affordability estimates in Northern Ireland are based solely on reallymoving’s internal data.
