Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, changed his plea to guilty when he appeared at Warwick Crown Court on Friday.
An Afghan national has admitted raping a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton, in Warwickshire.
Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, changed his plea to guilty when he appeared at Warwick Crown Court on Friday. He admitted one count of raping a child under 13 in connection with an incident on July 22.
Mulakhil, of no fixed address, had previously denied abducting a child, three further counts of raping a child under 13 and two counts of sexual assault.
His co-defendant, 23-year-old Mohammad Kabir, also of no fixed address, maintains not guilty pleas to allegations of attempting to take a child, aiding and abetting rape of a child under 13 and intentional strangulation.
Both men, confirmed by police to be Afghan nationals, were assisted by interpreters during the hearing before Judge Kristina Montgomery KC. Mulakhil entered his guilty plea when he was rearranged, while Kabir spoke only to confirm his name.
The case has previously sparked protests outside Nuneaton Town Hall on August 9, with crowds marching through the high street carrying St George’s flags and chanting slogans. A smaller counter-protest by Stand Up To Racism also took place nearby.
Mulakhil and Kabir are due to stand trial on January 26.
Judge Montgomery told them they must return to court on December 12, when the complainant is expected to attend to give evidence and be cross-examined.
She added: “You should both reflect carefully on your position before that takes place.”
Both men were remanded into custody.
