All of the buildings to be bulldozed for new Nuneaton hotel and cinema

A list of all of the buildings set to be bulldozed to pave the way for a new hotel and cinema in Nuneaton have been revealed.

With the news that the new landmark Hilton hotel on the former Abbey Street car park is set to be given the green-light, CoventryLive has found out which buildings will make way for it.

The planning application, which also includes outline permission for facilities such as a new cinema, multi-storey car park, health centre and food hall, focuses mainly on the former Co-op car park.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has confirmed that, should the plans be given the go-ahead, it will mean that current buildings on New Century Way will have to be bulldozed.

“The buildings to be demolished to facilitate the Abbey Street development are 3 to 15 New Century Way and the electricity sub-station situated behind,” said a Town Hall spokesperson.

That includes the old Co-op bank as well as Mobility and Lifestyle.

As we previously reported, the first phase of the regeneration of the Abbey Street area – which includes a new Hampton by Hilton hotel, are set to be given the thumbs-up.

The new Hilton hotel forms part of a huge regeneration plan for the area which includes a five screen cinema as well as a multi-storey car park and a food hall.

Vicarage Street plans

Buildings in New Century Way are not the only ones due to be demolished under the huge Transforming Nuneaton programme.

There are also proposals for a new almost £20m library and offices in the Vicarage Street/Church Street area of town.

It means that new homes have to be found for Wilkos and the nearby Royal Mail Nuneaton delivery office as the buildings are needed for the new library and business quarter.

Nuneaton’s main library is also set to be bulldozed as part of the regeneration of the area.
