All the Greater Manchester Christmas jobs available at Tesco, Morrisons, Royal Mail and more

The festive season is nearly upon us – and it’s good news for jobseekers.

Many businesses are preparing for their busiest time of year in the the run up to Christmas.

Brits are expected to splash out on bumper Christmas celebrations this year after last year’s festivities were disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Each year, high street retailers, supermarkets and delivery companies recruit thousands of additional workers to help see them through the festive period.

This year is no different and many companies are already advertising for seasonal roles.

Jobs are available at Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, Amazon and with the Royal Mail – as well as many more.

Here, we’ve rounded up some of the seasonal jobs available in Greater Manchester, and how you can apply for them.

Tesco

Supermarket giant Tesco has said it will take on around 30,000 seasonal workers across the UK this Christmas.

There are festive roles up for grabs in both Tesco superstores and Tesco Extra sites.

As a festive worker at Tesco you could find yourself stacking shelves in store, picking products for delivery orders or serving customers at the till.

A number of different shift patterns will be available, and hours will be discussed at the interview stage.

In Greater Manchester, seasonal workers are being recruited at Tesco stores in Cheetham Hill, Salford, Stretford, Gorton, Levenshulme, Burnage, Prestwich, East Didsbury, Sale, Middleton, Baguley, Altrincham, Stalybridge, Irlam, Bury, Handforth, Rochdale, Greenfield, Atherton, Leigh, Horwich and Wigan.

Morrisons

Morrisons has said it will hire around 3,000 new members of staff this Christmas.

Seasonal jobs are available at warehouses, manufacturing sites and across stores nationwide.

The supermarket will give full training for all roles and says no prior experience is needed.

Royal Mail

Christmas is the busiest time of the year for the Royal Mail.

Every year, thousands of seasonal workers are recruited to help get parcels and letters through the warehouses and out to their recipients.

Around 17,150 seasonal workers are needed in mail centres, distribution hubs and data centres across England this year.

And in our region, Royal Mail is now recruiting Seasonal Mail Sorters at the Manchester Mail Centre.

Mail sorters are responsible for unloading mail and parcels from vans, moving them through the warehouses and ensuring that they arrive at their destination safely.

A range of shifts will be on offer including late shifts, night shifts and weekend shifts.

You will get paid £11.40 per hour for a day shift and £13.70 per hour for a night shift.

Sainsbury’s and Argos

Sainsbury’s is looking to hire 22,000 temporary workers to help with the festive rush.

Thousands of new store roles will be created including customer and trading manager positions.

The supermarket is also looking for delivery drivers and warehouse operatives, as well as people to work in contact centres.

Seasonal roles are available now on fixed-term contacts of between three and 12 weeks, with staff working until January 8 next year.

In Greater Manchester, roles are currently available in Ashton-under-Lyne, Oldham, Altrincham, Bolton and Wigan.

Asda

Asda is seeking to recruit 15,000 people to help with the busy Christmas period.

Temporary workers are being hired for a raft of roles in its stores and depots and for its home delivery service.

The retailer said there will be opportunities for some of these seasonal workers to remain with Asda into the new year as colleagues take time off after the hectic festive period.

Amazon

Amazon has already started recruiting for seasonal workers across the UK.

In some cases, the company will also offer a £1,500 bonus for workers who start the role before the end of October.

Temporary jobs are on offer in Amazon’s fulfilment centres, sorting centres and delivery stations this Christmas.

Wages start from £10 and hour for day time shifts and £11 an hour for night shifts. Some roles also offer the opportunity for overtime as well.

Previous experience is not necessary as you’ll be trained on the job.

There are currently roles available at Amazon Fulfillment Centres in Altrincham and Bolton and at the Amazon Logistics Centre in Trafford Park.

Boots

Boots is now recruiting Christmas Customer Advisors to help with the busy festive period.

Working at one of the health and beauty retailers many stores, you will be required to serve at the tills, prepare online orders and ensure shelves remain stocked up.

Temporary Christmas roles may also lead to permanent positions in the new year, Boots said.

No previous experience or qualifications are necessary to apply for a Christmas Customer Advisor role.

Christmas jobs are currently available at stores across Manchester and Bolton.

Costa

Coffee chain Costa is also looking for seasonal workers this festive season.

In Bolton, the company is looking for baristas to work 12 hours over the weekend.

Previous experience is not required but candidates should be able to multitask and have a hard-working attitude, Costa says.
