Amazon Prime Day set to be a volume spike for carriers

Amazon has announced its annual Amazon Prime Day is set for 13th-14th October. Delivery companies that handle parcels that Amazon Logistics does not deliver will expect the first spike in demand of the coming peak delivery season.

Amazon Prime Day offers Amazon Prime members big discounts on a wide range of SKUs from electronics to fashion and home products. Thanks to the big discounts the company is set to take millions of orders more worldwide than it usually does over a weekend period.

Unlike the normal Prime service the company desists offering next-day delivery due to the glut in demand. Many of the carriers it uses will also see large spikes as the volumes of parcels increase through the system. Carriers that Amazon use include DPD, Hermes UK and Royal Mail.

Amazon is the biggest online retailer in the world by some margin. Though it won’t quite compete with the Black Friday / Cyber Weekend spike in November (or the Singles Day event in China and SE Asia) it does present a busy time for carriers in the run up to Christmas.
