Ambleside’s Royal Oak to host charity night for Sofia Savage

Sofia Savage’s dad Christopher Savage works at The Royal Oak in Ambleside and his colleagues have banded together to host a charity night to raise money for five-year-old Sofia, who was diagnosed with incurable brain cancer last month, to be remembered among the family and the community.

The Royal Oak have prepared a special night of fundraising on February 19 and are hoping to add to the £17,000 which has already been raised on a GoFundMe page.

As soon as they heard about the devastating news, The Royal Oak knew they wanted to do something for the cause.

Assistant manager Jessica Walker said: “We got told Sofia had cancer, but we never knew how serious it was, so we were all devastated as Sofia’s a gorgeous girl, she has a lovely personality.

“Nicola, the general manager, her family have been impacted by cancer in the past so it was her idea to do the charity night.”

The night will see a variety of entertainment on offer including live music.

Mrs Walker added: “We’ve got pub games, raffles, plenty of prizes, which the local community has provided for us.

“Greene King have donated a brewery tour, bed and breakfast and dinner for two people. We’ve also had the fudge shop, the entire Inn Collection in Ambleside and Grasmere have also donated.

“We’re going to go up to the butchers too, they said they’ll donate as well.”

Mrs Walker has been surprised by the reaction from the local community in Ambleside since they announced the charity night.

“When stuff like this happens, I’ve noticed the community comes together,” she said.

“I’ve never seen anything like it before, coming from Liverpool. It’s overwhelming sometimes what they can do.”

The Royal Oak’s charity night for Sofia Savage will be taking place on February 19 at 7pm.
