Amersham KFC fire: Fuse board alight at fast-food restaurant awaiting opening date

A much-awaited fast food restaurant in Buckinghamshire is yet to open – but it is still seeing plenty of action. Three fire engines were called out to deal with a fuse board fire at the premises on Thursday.

KFC announced plans to open a new store in Amersham back in January 2021 and planning permission was granted in April. But, despite insisting the store would open by Christmas, bosses at the fried chicken chain have remained quiet on the store’s future.

The latest developments at the site on Sycamore Road saw fire crews rush to the premises as the result of a small fire. A KFC spokesperson told BuckinghamshireLive no injuries were sustained in the incident.

Firefighters from three different towns converged on Amersham to deal with the fire. A Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue spokesperson said: “One appliance and crew from Beaconsfield, one from High Wycombe, and one from Gerrards Cross attended, along with one officer.

“A fire, in the fuse board of a commercial property, was out before they arrived. The firefighters used a thermal imaging camera, to confirm the fire was out.”

A KFC Spokesperson said: “Operating responsibly is our number one priority and all our restaurants are equipped with fire extinguishers. The recent fire at our Amersham coop was small, quickly put out and fortunately, nobody was hurt.”

KFC did not confirm when the long awaited restaurant will open.
