An Post launches UK Direct parcel service

An Post has introduced a new cross-border parcel delivery and returns service designed to simplify shipping between Ireland and the UK for small and medium-sized businesses.

The service was developed in partnership with Royal Mail and is designed to support Irish retailers seeking to scale their e-commerce presence in the UK market.

The service, called UK Direct, aims to address post-Brexit customs and compliance challenges that have complicated trade for Irish exporters selling to British consumers.

It provides a fully-integrated solution, including advance customs payments, three-day parcel delivery and end-to-end tracking.

Enterprise Ireland estimates that 97% of Irish companies intend to expand into new markets within the next year, with the UK continuing to rank among the top priority destinations.

Launching the service, An Post CEO David McRedmond said: “UK-Irish trade is central to Ireland’s economy. This new UK Direct solution reopens that market for businesses facing the challenges posed by Brexit.”

He added that in building the new infrastructure An Post is opening doors to trade with the UK for Ireland’s 400,000+ SMEs.

Kara Owen, British Ambassador to Ireland, added that the initiative would strengthen cross-border commerce between the two countries.
