Prince Andrew, who was stripped of all his Royal titles, styles and honours last month, is now on the brink of losing his last remaining honour
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, is on the verge of losing his final remaining honour.
This comes just weeks after being stripped of all his Royal titles, styles and honours. The former Duke of York has experienced one of the most dramatic Royal falls from grace in recent memory, and it seems the saga is not finished.
It has emerged that the former Duke of York could lose the Freedom of the City of London, one of the world’s most ancient civic honours. This privilege permits individuals to drive sheep across London Bridge and carry a ceremonial sword, reports the Manchester Evening News.
It is believed that Andrew received this honour due to his father, Prince Philip, also being a Freeman of the City of London – an honour held by several notable figures, including Sir David Beckham. On Friday, The Sun reported that a spokesperson for the City of London Corporation said: “Andrew received the honour by virtue of patrimony, which is inherited as the child of a Freeman.
“Applications via patrimony are not considered by our elected members. The City Corporation is listening, and will continue to listen, to concerns raised.
“And it will carefully consider the rules that govern how a Freedom is given – and the circumstances in which, and procedure by which, it can be removed.”
The Express reports that the loss of this honour may not greatly affect Andrew, but it symbolises another potential embarrassment for the King’s brother. Recently, Andrew has been stripped of his Royal titles and his residence at Royal Lodge.
The 65 year old is set to move to a property on King Charles’ private Sandringham estate.
All of the changes follow the controversies surrounding Andrew’s past association with the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew has consistently denied any allegations made against him.
