A BBC cameraman got more than he bargained for when he attempted to film a sheep. Back in 2019, Animal Park was being filmed at Longleat Estate and Safari Park for a summer special on Cameroon sheep.
“One of the rarest breeds in the country,” the owner told presenter Kate Humble. The 56-year-old gushed: “Isn’t he beautiful? Look at you!”
The sheep, which had two large thick horns, began pawing at the ground as Humble laughed: “You are a little beggar, aren’t you?”
As the sheep approached the cameraman, the owner pointed out that animal often “goes behind and rears up” before branding him “so naughty”. In that moment, the sheep locked its eyes on the cameraman before violently ramming his head into the BBC star’s groin.
The cameraman instantly fell to the floor, dropping his huge camera on the grass.
Humble and the owner were in shock, but couldn’t help but laugh at the incident. As the sheep approached its owner, she declared: “Cecil! Don’t do that!” before apologising to the cameraman.
Viewers rushed to comment on the shocking incident, with one pointing out the cameraman’s professionalism after being taken down by the sheep.
“Look at the camera man, trying to save the camera before falling in excruciating pain,” they wrote.
Another said: “He protecc. He attacc. But most importantly… He never misses the cameraman’s sacc!”
A third declared: “I know that’s the reason I protect my nuts when I’m around rams. It’s their natural behaviour, they tend to do that when you play with them. Plus their skulls are tough as a rock.”
Animal Park first hit screens in 2000 and was presented by Humble and Paul Heiney. In series two, Heiney was replaced by Ben Fogle.
The BBC programme ended in 2009 but returned seven years later, with Humble and Fogle, 51, resuming their position as presenters. In 2022, Springwatch star Megan McCubbin joined the cast as a presenter.
