It’s nearly time for the August bank holiday – a day for (most) people to enjoy a day off work.

With the weather set to be warm and sunny it could provide a welcome opportunity for many to enjoy a last blast of summer before the school holidays come to an end – while others may just settle for a lie-in and some box set binging.

If you’ve ordered anything in advance of your bank holiday plans though, will it actually be delivered?

Bank holidays affect many shops opening hours and other services. Here’s when the Post Office may be open today and how you can expect your mail deliveries to be affected.

Are post offices open on August bank holiday?

Whether a post office is open or not on the August bank holiday will depend on your local branch.

Their website states: ‘For Local Post Office branches, the Post Office should be open if your retail business is open on a bank holiday.’

The site also points out that main Post Office branches are contracted to open during their retail business opening hours on a bank holiday.

This means that the majority of Post Offices will be open today – although those which are not ‘main’ branches may well be closed – your best bet is to check the website to see if your local branch is open – and its opening hours.

Royal Mail don’t usually deliver or collect mail on bank and public holidays and on Monday August 29 there will be ‘no collections or deliveries’ except in parts of Scotland, where Monday is not a bank holiday.

Again, you should check the website to see which postcodes are covered.

Their delivery service will resume again as normal on Tuesday August 30.
