Find out if there are more Royal Mail postal strikes in May 2023 as the new month approaches.
Royal Mail workers in Britain who belong to the Communication Workers Union (CWU) have been striking since August 2022.
They are walking out as they want a pay rise that reflects the rising cost of living in Britain and the dispute is still ongoing in 2023.
Staff took action on some of the busiest posting dates over the Christmas period and were also due to strike on February 16.
However, the latest walkout was cancelled after Royal Mail challenged the way the strike was called – and there haven’t been any since.

Are there more Royal Mail strikes in May 2023?
No, there are no more Royal Mail strikes planned in the UK and it looks like an end could be in sight as the CWU has just accepted a pay offer.
The offer includes a pay increase for workers and positive changes to working practices – but Royal Mail staff haven’t accepted the deal yet.
Union members will enter a ballot on the offer in the coming weeks. If accepted, the dispute will be over following nine months of strikes and talks.
Royal Mail’s offer for workers
The offer includes:
- 10% salary increase over three years
- One-off lump sum of £500
- Staff will receive 20% Royal Mail’s operating profits over the next two years
- Changes to delivery start times and Sunday working
- Commitment to no compulsory redundancies
- Changes to sick pay, attendance standards and ill health retirement
- Revised contracts for new starters
It looks like an end to train strikes could be close too as the Rail, Marine and Transport union (RMT) has been offered a new deal which leaders are currently “considering”.
Mail will be affected by May bank holidays
There might be no postal strikes but your May mail will be affected by the three bank holidays.
Royal Mail says there will be no collections or deliveries on:
- Monday, May 1 – Early May Bank Holiday
- Monday, May 8 – Coronation of King Charles III
- Monday, May 29 – Spring Bank Holiday
Some post offices will still be open with reduced hours to drop off parcels but they won’t be collected until the following day.
It’s best to call or visit your local post office to find out its May bank holiday opening hours.
