Over the past few months, rail strikes have caused chaos across Britain.
Commuters have been unable to get to work and weekend plans halted for many as the country faced some of the worst strikes it’s seen in decades.
Transport unions are calling strikes over pay and job cuts, with many claiming that salaries should reflect the rising cost of living across the nation.
Lots of people have had enough of the strikes, which have been going on since June and caused huge disruption to almost all major railway networks.

Are there more train strikes in September?
- At the time of writing this, there are no more rail strikes planned for September.
On its website, National Rail says that “no further industrial action affecting National Rail services has been announced”.
It is possible that the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) or Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA), could call more strikes, but they are required to give plenty of notice.
That means it’s unlikely that there will be any strikes in September, but National Rail says that if further industrial action is announced this page will be updated accordingly.
All the rail strikes so far
Rail journeys across the UK have been affected by industrial action for seven days in total across June, July and August. This includes:
- June 21, 23 and 25
- July 27 and 30
- August 18 and 20
The strikes affected a number of different rail companies across the country including Avanti West Coast, C2C, Chiltern Railways, Greater Anglia, Northern Trains, South Western Railway and many more.
At the time of writing this, the dispute over rail workers’ pay still hasn’t been resolved so more strike action could be possible in the future.
Royal Mail are striking in September
There might not be any train strikes in September, but many other industries are striking including Royal Mail.
Workers at Royal Mail who belong to the Communication Workers Union (CWU) are striking for several days across August and September over pay.
Around 115,000 employees are expected to walk out after the union rejected a pay rise offer “worth up to 5.5 per cent” after three months.
The union wants salaries to rise in line with inflation, which is currently at 9.4 per cent and there will be huge disruption to post.
Royal Mail workers are striking on:
- Friday, August 26
- Wednesday, August 31
- Thursday, September 8
- Friday, September 9
On these days, Royal Mail has revealed that no letters will be delivered at all unless they have been posting using Special Delivery.
“We will be doing what we can to keep services running, but customers should expect significant disruption,” the mail service said in a statement.
They will aim to deliver as many Special Delivery and Tracked24 parcels as possible and prioritise the delivery of COVID test kits and medical prescriptions wherever possible.
As reported by i News, criminal barristers are also striking throughout September and Spanish Ryanair workers are walking out every Monday and Tuesday until January 7 2023.
