People in Mapperley however, want to see a bank. Many people have to travel to either Carlton or the city centre to go to their local branch.

Cathy Hills, 67-years-old from Mapperley who is retired, would like to see a bank. She said: “Years ago, there were many banks around here and it was very handy.

“Now, I just go to town because it’s easier, I can’t be bothered to wait in the queue for the Post Office, it gets rather long at times. I’m not very good at online stuff and I’m scared I’ll lose money if I get something wrong, we only have one cash machine at Sainsbury’s.

“If it’s not a bank, I’d like to see another coffee shop, you can never have too many of those.”

John Holland, 72, lives in Mapperley would also like to see a bank. John told Nottinghamshire Live that there used to be a TSB, Barclays and a Lloyds in the area but they have all closed.

John said: “I wouldn’t like to see another barbers! We have enough of those. We don’t need anymore restaurants. We already have a hardware shop and a newsagents, we have most things here.

“It would be nice to see a bank, I have to go to Carlton or Arnold if I need to go to the bank.”

Builder Sam Gordon-James, 28, lives in Mapperley and would welcome most retail options to the area. He said: “I don’t mind what I see as long as it isn’t something ridiculous.

“It’ll either be somewhere you can go to eat or a shop which is fine by me. I like this area, there’s a lot here and it saves older people from having to go to town all the time.

“I’m surprised the barbers shop is closing down, it gets busy there a lot of the time.”

Terri Walters, 55-years-old is a sales assistant. Originally from Mapperley, Terri now lives in Netherfield but visits often to spend time with her mum.

Terri would like to see a bread bakery. She said: “I’d love to see a bakery, I know we have Birds but I’d like one that just sells bread. I love freshly baked bread, I do it myself most of the time but it would be nice to see one in the area. I know that a lot of people including my mum would want to see a bank. I do agree that there’s a lot of banks closing down all over Nottingham but this just seems too small for it to be a bank.”
