Australia Post Hiring More Workers for Holiday Season While USPS and Royal Mail Warn of Ongoing Problems Sending Parcels to Australia

Fresh from a new recruiting drive across its network, Australia Post is looking for more team members to help it deliver the most parcels ever for Australians over the Christmas period.

At present, Australia Post has 1,600 new full-time and part-time jobs available around the country, along with about 3,300 holiday temporary positions, as it bolsters its processing and delivery capabilities to meet the surge in online shopping.

The company is hiring in every state and territory and looking for people to fill roles in parcel and mail processing, van and truck drivers, motorcycle and EDV posties, forklift operators, and customer service representatives.

Sue Davies, Executive General Manager People and Culture at Australia Post encouraged job seekers to join the company at an exciting time when more than two million parcels are delivered every day.

“At the moment, every day feels like Christmas at Australia Post and we’re on the lookout for people to join us and help deliver and process record volumes across the country.”

“We’re proud of the outstanding efforts of our people working hard across the country who keeping delivering and supporting communities through challenging circumstances, and we’re so pleased to be able to welcome more into this fantastic Australia Post team.”

Australia Post’s recruitment drive is part of the ongoing effort of delivering for Australians while keeping our people and communities safe, added Ms Davies.

Australia Post Continues to Struggle with Managing Parcel Volume

But will this be enough to avoid long delayed packages and huge backlogs with a record Christmas season coming? International postal services don’t seem to think so.

This latest hiring spree comes on the heels of Australia Post to temporarily having to pause parcel collection from domestic online retailers for three days in September to allow its network to clear its backlog of parcels.

In addition, the United States Postal Service (USPS) continues to not accept many parcel shipments destined for Australia due to logistics backlogs caused from Covid restrictions and safety measures.

Last week, Royal mail reported more issues with Australis Post, “Australian Post has updated that positive cases of COVID have been detected at their Melbourne Office of Exchange, so it is to be closed for deep cleaning over next few days.”

In addition, Royal Mailed warned shippers, “The region has also been affected by the recent Earthquake, so structural checks will need to take place at the OE. As result, operation for all inbound mail due for Melbourne during this period will be affected, while other offices of exchange in Brisbane and Sydney continue to process mail items at this time, subject to previously announced COVID restrictions.”

Unlike USPS, Royal Mail appears to be still accepting parcels for Australia, But the situation just confirms that Australia Post is struggling to manage domestic volume and international shipments will likely be severely delayed, even if accepted by the origins postal service.

Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic has put Australia Post in a difficult situation. While the postal operator is trying to improve its network and hire more people, Australian shoppers continue to experience delivery days.
