Ayrshire history group’s blow as potential heritage hub site to be sold to another party

An Ayrshire charity organisation has suffered a blow to their hopes of opening a heritage hub.

Carrick History Society previously identified the former Post Office building, on Maybole’s High Street, for the ambitious venture.

And they went as far as seeking the views of residents in the town during a public consultation exercise over their proposals.

Their original plan included the possibility of taking ownership of the former post office, via a funding application to the Scottish Land Fund, then turning the building into a heritage hub, exhibition space, museum – and for a variety of other functions.

However, the group has learned that the building owners have now decided to sell the property to another party.

A statement on Carrick History Society’s Facebook page said: “We have been informed that Royal Mail has accepted an offer by another party to purchase the former Post Office building in Maybole. While this is disappointing for us, we wish the other party well in their endeavours. Any development is a positive!

“We have no further details at this time.”

Royal Mail was contacted for a response.
