Bad weather could lead to delays with deliveries, lorry drivers’ union warns

“Last year when we had red weather warnings in Scotland we still had employers telling drivers they had to go out, this is clearly unacceptable and no driver should be put in this situation. We expect bosses to act in the interests of their employees and other road users, not just in the interests of profits.

“The weather has to be very bad for consumers to notice anything amiss on the shelves but we would urge the public to be patient and consider the circumstances in which drivers have to work.  We all want to be home safe for Christmas.”

The Met Office has said that weather is set to turn over the coming days with parts of the country, including the midlands, are set to see heavy fog and ice.

Coastal areas are also due to experience gale-force winds, with the forecaster warning that road conditions will be affected.
