Bank customers aren’t smiling over access | Business

Thousands of customers of Smile bank have been unable to access its mobile app or website for two days as it struggles to fix an IT glitch. Smile took down its digital channels to restore slow systems, which meant that people were timed out when trying to log in.

Customers expressed frustration on social media about not being able to access online accounts and about long waiting times to reach call centres.

Smile has 100,000 customers. It is owned by the Co-operative Bank, which has four million customers. The problems affected only Smile, one of the first digital banks, created by the Co-op in 1999.

Customers have been able to withdraw money from ATMs and their direct debits have continued to be paid. The problems
