If you fancied a wager 12 months ago on who first would be out of IAG, the British Airways-led group of western European airlines, the smart money might have been on Alex Cruz, BA’s much-criticised chief executive, rather than his boss, Willie Walsh, another aviation executive with many detractors.
Mr Walsh, then 57, had made it plain that he would be hanging around until his 60th birthday before retiring gracefully.
