Basingstoke woman wins £5k in Royal Mail prize draw

Lindsey from Basingstoke won £5k in Royal Mail’s Magical Card Prize Draw simply by sending a card to a friend, who will also receive £5k.

She said: “When I called my friend who I sent the card to, she sobbed with joy.

“It’s just such a lovely surprise for Christmas. We haven’t been on holiday for a few years, so I’m planning to spend it on a break.

“We’re thinking of Italy, or maybe a hotel with a water park in Cyprus. I’ll probably put the rest into savings.”

The joy of giving was doubly sweet for Lindsey, who has long been a fan of posting festive cards.

She said: “I send cards every year—it’s just something I always do.

“It’s nice to have them up, it adds to the excitement.”

The Magical Card Prize Draw runs from December 1 to 24, with Royal Mail giving away over £500 prizes to more than 1,000 winners.

Each prize is shared between the sender and the recipient of the winning card, including daily £10,000 prizes and a bumper £100,000 giveaway on Christmas Eve.

Richard Travers, managing director of letters at Royal Mail, said: “Sending cards is a wonderful way to spread festive cheer, and we’re thrilled to make it even more special with our Magical Card Prize Draw.

“Congratulations to Lindsey and all our winners!”

To enter the draw, senders must take a photo of a Christmas card featuring a 2025 Christmas stamp and the word ‘magical’ written on the envelope.

The image can then be uploaded to www.royalmailmagic.com along with the names and details of both the sender and the recipient.

For Lindsey, the surprise win has added extra sparkle to the festive season—and created an unexpected opportunity to reconnect and reflect on why the tradition of card-sending still matters.

Not only did it deliver a financial boost but it also shared a moment of happiness between friends, one stamp at a time.
