BBC Bargain Hunt contestants in surprise move as fans support their gesture

Bargain Hunt has been on our screens for more than 20 years and has seen many teams compete to make the most profit – but one duo decided to use their money for a good cause

A married couple who took part in the popular daytime TV series Bargain Hunt surprised fans by what they did after the episode ended.

Bargain Hunt centres around maximising profits after purchasing antiques within a restricted budget.

Each episode of the BBC series sees two competing teams receive a fixed sum of money (several hundred pounds) and are given 60 minutes to hunt for vintage treasures before attempting to flog them for a return.

Whilst victorious teams typically retain their well-deserved winnings following the show, one pair, Sarah and Pete, chose to spend their earnings on provisions for a food bank in Cardigan, Wales.

The Bargain Hunt crew shared on X: “How nice of Sarah and Pete – the blue team on last Monday’s episode in Narberth – to use their profits to buy food for their local food bank. Diolch yn fawr guys.”

Cardigan Food Bank uploaded a photograph of Sarah and Pete on Facebook, displaying a table laden with tea bags, tinned goods, sugar, biscuits, and jars of sauces.

The food bank wrote beneath the heartwarming post: “Thank you, Pete and Sarah. As part of their experience in the ‘Bargain Hunt’ TV show (aired last Monday) they’ve used their money to buy food for the Foodbank. Diolch yn fawr,” reports the Express.

Fans rushed to comment on the post after reading about the pair’s generosity.

One wrote: “What a generous thing to do. (clapping hands emoji)”. A second posted: “What a lovely kind gesture.”

Another added: “Well done all!” And a fourth comment simply said: “Wonderful.”

The Bargain Hunt crew is presently competing for the Best Daytime Show accolade at the 2026 TV Choice Awards – and public voting concluded in recent days.

They shared on X earlier this month: “We’ve been getting it right for 25 years. Vote Bargain Hunt in the 2026 TV Choice Awards.”

The BBC programme first aired on 13 March 2000, with David Dickinson as the inaugural presenter. He was subsequently replaced by Tim Wonnacott and Danny Sebastian.
