The highly anticipated BBC Proms is back for 2023, and has announced its full schedule.
From Friday, July 14 until Saturday, September 9, some of the best classical musicians and orchestras from around the world will be performing to audiences on the biggest stage.
Fans can expect the usual blend of contemporary and classical musical talent, with the team behind Horrible Histories bringing ’Orrible Opera to the Proms, featuring the English National Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
In addition, contemporary singers Rufus Wainwright, Self Esteem, and Jon Hopkins have also been announced as part of the line-up.
All day today, Radio 3 comes live from the Royal Albert Hall – counting down the hours until the start of the world’s greatest classical music festival. Stay with us for more fantastic music. pic.twitter.com/E18hCtKy11— BBC Radio 3 (@BBCRadio3) July 14, 2023
Of course, there’ll be plenty to please fans of classical music, too, with international ensembles such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Budapest Festival Orchestra set to perform.
How to watch or listen:
If you can’t attend in person, every Prom at the Royal Albert Hall will also be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and, for the very first time, most concerts will be available on BBC Sounds to listen back for one year.
The BBC will broadcast 24 programmes, with catch-up options on BBC iPlayer.
Proms’ Last Night celebration
Fans can expect the Proms’ Last Night celebration – which was scrapped last year because of the death of the Queen – to return to its usual format, with the likes of Rule, Britannia! and Land of Hope and Glory.
