Tributes have been paid to a much-loved beauty queen who died just days after being crowned Miss Royal Somerset 2025 and was preparing to compete in the finals of Miss Royal UK.
Chloe Roberts, 21, proudly announced that she was dedicating her year as Miss Somerset to raising awareness of mental health issues, and the prevention of suicide following the death of a close friend who took her own life in 2021.
She had her own podcast called Talk It Out, streamed worldwide across Spotify, in which she tried to ‘stamp out the stigma’ of mental health conditions.
Details of how Miss Roberts died have not yet been released, but her death has been confirmed by many of her friends posting messages of condolence on social media, and speaking of their heartbreak.
Tributes described her as ‘one if the kindest most caring individuals both online and in real life’ and someone who was ‘adored by many’ as well as being ‘a little grafter, funny, kind, sweet and beautiful’.
Miss Roberts, who trained as a nurse, spoke movingly about how she planned to serve the community and was trying to battle negative attitudes towards beauty pageants after she became Miss Royal Somerset for 2025.
In a post announcing her win, she said: ‘I’m super excited to be representing my home town and volunteering this year across the county.
‘I plan to work with local charities and businesses and interview them about their mental health perspectives for my podcast, Talk It Out, which is streamed on Spotify.’

Miss Roberts first started competing in beauty pageants in 2019, and won the Miss Royal East Yorkshire title for 2024, having studied nursing at the University of Hull
‘With the titles you have the opportunity to raise awareness of anything you want, and my focus is around mental health and the prevention of suicide which I’m extremely passionate about.
‘Unfortunately in 2021, I lost a close friend of mine to suicide, so I dedicate my platform as a legacy to her.’
Miss Roberts’ podcast previously broached topics including antenatal mental health, adoption, learning disabilities, bullying, selective mutism, bipolar disorder, PTSD, racism, anxiety, and depression.

Miss Roberts reportedly moved to Somerset three years ago, and her family own a bed and breakfast in Wheddon Cross, near Minehead.
Talking about how she wanted to improve the image of beauty pageants, she added earlier this month: ‘The pageant industry these days isn’t what it used to be like.
‘Many people, you say the word ‘pageant’ to them, and they typically think of Toddlers and Tiaras, or the age when it was all about the skinniest girl or the prettiest girl. These days, it’s nothing like that. It’s more about who you stand for as a person and your community and charity work.’
Miss Roberts was due to compete in the Miss Royal UK finals in Manchester this October which would have given her a chance to go through to the International Royal Miss Pageant finals in Florida, with £20,000 and a five-star cruise as a first prize.
In an interview earlier this year, she admitted that not everyone was enthusiastic about pageants, saying: ‘The reaction has been a bit mixed. There has been a few negative people saying, ‘Maybe you shouldn’t be talking about this’.
‘But at the end of the day, with what I’ve been through, losing a friend… I don’t think there’s anything wrong with speaking about mental health.’
Alongside the main Miss Royal UK pageant, Miss Roberts was due to enter a separate competition for best ‘spokesmodel’, recognising contestants who use their platform to speak up about something that matters to them.

She would have been given two minutes to deliver a speech on her chosen issue – mental health – in an outfit inspired by the topic.
Miss Roberts said she had already designed her ‘spokesmodel’ outfit herself, saying ‘I already have the outfit in my wardrobe… It just needs a few touch-ups. It’s going to be a big secret that’ll be revealed on the day.
‘All I can say is it’s going to be mental health-based and focused on my platform with Talk It Out.’
When asked what advice for aspiring pageant queens, she said: ‘I would say absolutely go for it! Pageantry is something you almost get to learn to love. Some people enjoy football, some people enjoy rugby, and pageantry is a whole other level.
‘It’s so positive and full of so many inspirational girls. You make friends from literally all across the UK, even the world. I have friends in Scotland, Wales, and even some international friends in America and Zimbabwe. The list is endless.’
A friend of Miss Roberts posed a Facebook tribute to her, saying: ‘To the girl who saved me but I couldn’t save…
‘Chloe Roberts, wow. I honestly don’t know where to start or what to say. I couldn’t believe the comments, I didn’t want to. I don’t think I will ever believe this is real. I’m still waiting to wake up from this horror of a dream.
‘Wow, you have no idea what an effect and impact you had on my life! You have achieved and helped so many people and for that I will always be grateful and love you to pieces.
‘All I can hope is you’re at peace resting with your lovely grandad. I love you forever beautiful girl. And to anyone reading this, as Chloe said, you don’t have to suffer alone.’
Another friend said: ‘It’s devastating to make a post like this online, but for those who aren’t aware, unfortunately an incredible friend and inspiration to many of us on many levels has recently passed away.
‘Chloe Roberts was a close friend to myself and was one if the kindest most caring individuals both online and in real life.
‘I knew Chloe both within the modelling and advocacy scene. With a podcast and pageantry title, she was also passionate as many know about raising awareness on mental health, and grief, and other topics after grief for a shared close friend brought us together.
‘My heart breaks having to write this for all of the mutuals we shared. RIP to a beautiful woman, friend, model and advocate taken far too soon who will be missed more than words can say. Love you forever and always prin.’
A third friend said on Instagram: ‘It is with a heavy heart that I’m posting this but unfortunately my close friend Chloe Roberts passed away peacefully this week, January 2025.
‘If you know me you’ll probably know that me and Chloe spent many years being inseparable, despite living 4 hours apart we would spend every day of lockdown on FaceTime, and would see how long we could stay on, even once reaching 24 hours by leaving facetime on in the background whilst at work.
‘From pulling your shoulder doing pull ups to catching spiders to our high school musical sing songs during these calls, I will cherish every moment for the rest of my life.
‘Chloe was one of the first pageant girls that made me feel welcome and what I love about her is the fact that no matter what struggles of her own she was facing, she’d always be there to help others through theirs which is a testament to her character.
‘The past few days have felt so different and difficult knowing you aren’t here, nothing will ever feel the same, especially pageants which you supported me so much in, and not receiving my daily snap from you has hit hard, but the memories I have with you will last a lifetime and I know you are in a better place now.
‘I love you Chlo, you have a peace of my heart, forever and always. Everything I do, will be for you angel.’
Another friend posted: This is not a post anyone would ever wish to be putting out there.
’23/1/25 – unfortunately our beautiful Chloe Roberts unfortunately passed away.
‘After communication with her family I have been given permission to post this. We all adored her and she adored us to. Chloe was loved so, so dearly and we will all miss her so much. Heaven has gained a true angel.
‘To my Chloe, I am going to miss you so much thank you for being that best friend I ever had. Our daily talks always put a smile on my face, and I am going to miss it so, so much.
‘You always knew how to make me laugh and you were the kindest soul I have ever met. You lit up that pageant stage like no one else and when I first met you at MTGB I knew we were going to make such precious memories.
‘Chloe I love you forever and heaven has gained an angel. You have been taken to soon. Continue to smile up there and dance away the skies. Until we meet again my girl. I love you always.’
