The price of a first class stamp has risen by 30p today (October 7).
The cost of a stamp has now reached an eye watering £1.65, as reported by The Sunday Times.
It is the seventh price rise in five years, with the cost almost doubling since March 2022, when a first class stamp cost 85p.
The Royal Mail blames the price rise on what it calls “a very real and urgent financial sustainability challenge”, but it will still come as a huge blow to businesses and people who regularly use the postal service.
Punchline-Gloucester.com said: “£1.65 to post a letter just feels ridiculous. It will put a lot of people off using the post at all and leave them looking for alternative solutions. But anyone who has been stockpiling stamps for Christmas will be feeling very pleased with themselves that every card or letter they send will be costing them 30p less than it does for everyone else!”
The price of a second class stamp will remain at 85p.
