Bishop and ‘sexy wife’ found after joke letter sparks Royal Mail hunt for desirable spouse

A bishop and his “sexy wife” have been found after a “joke” letter with few details sparked a Royal Mail hunt for a clergyman and his attractive spouse.

When the letter addressed to the “Lord Bishop and his sexy wife” dropped through the letterbox of John Inge, the Bishop of Worcester, he wasn’t offended.

In fact, he was so chuffed he posted a snap of the letter on Twitter.

The letter was simply addressed: “The Lord Bishop and his sexy wife, Worcester”.

Captioning the post, he praised the Royal Mail for the impressive task of delivering a letter without a street address or a postcode, or even a full name, The Telegraph reports.

He tweeted today: “Good old Royal Mail. This arrived safely yesterday…”

Explaining the cheeky postage directions, he told The Telegraph: “When I married my wife people said I was punching above my weight and I have to agree.

“We both found it very funny when the letter arrived addressed in that way.”

Dr John Inge married his wife H-J Colston at St Katherine’s Church in Holt, near Bath, in January 2018, after knowing each other for 20 years.

The bishop’s “sexy wife” speaks fluent Mandarin and runs youth education charity, Engage with China, which is working to build literacy and knowledge about the country in British schools.

The NGO has been affectionately called a “friend of China” by the Chinese Communist Party’s top man Xi Jinping.

During the pandemic, she founded Welfare for Healthcare, which distributes care packages for key workers, including NHS staff.

And according to the bishop, she was happy with the compliment and gave her approval for her hubby to share it with the world.

“She thought it was very amusing and was happy for me to tweet it,” said Dr Inge. “I’m all for Twitter being fun and not just for miserable things.”

The letter was posted by a mischievous friend after he and the bishop joked about how to write to him in an official manner.

Twitter users quipped about which part of the address helped guide the postman to the bishop’s letterbox.

Dr Inge was previously married to his first wife Denise, the mother of his two children, who tragically died of cancer aged just 51 in 2014.

After his engagement to H-J in October 2017, he said: “To have found love again is a most wonderful thing and I feel immensely blessed.”
