A Blackpool café has been has been slapped with a score of “zero” in their most recent food hygiene inspection.
Dahlia’s Kitchen on Cropper Road was found to need to urgent improvement after its inspection on October 20. It becomes the fifth business in Blackpool to have been recently handed the lowest score of zero.
Aspects of the café such as hygienic food handling and cleanliness, the condition of the facilities and safe food management were inspected by Blackpool Council, who based the score of zero off the findings.

Urgent improvement was deemed necessary in the management of food safety. This means that there were serious issues found with the system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
The basic findings, which were published in the last week, also found major improvement was deemed necessary in the hygienic handling of food, including how food is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored.
The cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene were also found to need improvement.
Earlier this year, Dahlia’s Kitchen and shops emporium, along with The Garden Place garden centre on Cropper Road, Marton, confirmed their site is not part of a planning application by Wain Homes which wants to build 350 houses on surrounding land.
Sean Pickup, who has owned and run Dahlia’s Kitchen for 17 years, told LancsLive at the time: “We are here for the foreseeable future and I want to ensure our customers know that.
“Planning for this site will eventually go in but even if the land is developed, there will be an option to keep Dahlia’s here, probably with a new build property. Many of our customers were very upset to think we might be closing so I want to reassure them we are staying. I have built the business up from starting it as a coffee shop and now we have regular events and party nights, as well as a take-away service.”
Dahlia’s Kitchen declined to comment on multiple occasions when approached by LancsLive regarding its latest food hygiene rating.
