Body found in search for Scot who vanished from coastal town six days ago

A body has been found in the search for a missing Scot who vanished earlier this week. John Geddes was last seen in Lossiemouth on Monday. The 33-year-old disappeared from the Coulardhill area of the Moray town at around 10.30pm and Police Scotland has said this evening that a body has been discovered.

The force said the A941 road near to Lossiemouth is closed between the B9103 and the B9135 after the body in question was discovered today, Sunday, November 17, 2024. The body was found at around 4.10pm and formal identification has still to take place, but officers have informed the family of John, after previously saying there were growing concerns for his welfare.

Lifeboat crews from Portsoy, Buckie, Burghead, and Macduff had searched some of the Moray coastline along with a Coastguard helicopter from Inverness. Police described John as having brown hair and being of slim build and around 5ft 8in tall when officers appealed to the public for information on his whereabouts.

They said he was wearing blue Adidas trainers, black trousers with reflective orange strips and a khaki green fleece when he was last seen. Constable Rachael Devenney said at the time: “As time passes concerns are growing for John and extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace him.

“I would appeal to anyone who has seen him, or who has any information on his whereabouts, to contact us as soon as possible.” A Coastguard spokesperson added: HM Coastguard is assisting Police Scotland with an incident at Lossiemouth after a report of concern was made at about 1.05am on November 12.

“The HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Inverness was sent as well as Coastguard Rescue Teams from Portsoy, Buckie, and Burghead, and the RNLI’s inshore lifeboat from Macduff.” But officers believe the body discovered is that of John and have informed his family.
