‘Bomb scare’ in Saltcoats declared false alarm after ‘suspicious package’ reports

Police have rushed to a Royal Mail delivery office in Saltcoats earlier following reports of a ‘suspicious package.’

Emergency services cordoned off much of the town centre on Thursday evening.

There were fears a parcel bomb had been found at the post office in Chapelwell Street, Saltcoats.

Emergency services swarmed the area around 5.45pm but police confirmed just after 8.30pm that the package has been declared ‘non-suspicious’

 

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We received a report of a suspicious package at a Royal Mail delivery office in Chapelwell Street, Saltcoats, around 5.45pm on Thursday, October 17, 2019.

“Officers attended and the package was found to be non-suspicious.”
