Stone’s Borough Independents Councillor, Phil Leason, has been nominated as Stafford Borough Mayor for the coming year.
Councillor Phil Leason is a familiar face of Stone, having been a local councillor at both Town and Borough level, town mayor and is probably best known for his encyclopedic knowledge of local Stone History.
It was the turn of the Borough Independents to nominate a councillor for mayor, and they put their full support behind Councillor Leason.
Cllr Rob Kenney said ” It was a great honour to be able to nominate Cllr Phil Leason for the prestigious role of Stafford Borough mayor. Phil will do a fantastic job throughout the mayoral year.”
The current Stafford Borough Mayor, Tony Nixon, was the first mayor to be sworn in virtually when last year’s ceremony took place online due to Covid restrictions. Councillor Leason will be sworn in at a formal, in-person, ceremony in May where he will officially take the chains of office.
Phil was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s new years honours list in 2016 for his services to the Royal Mail and the local community.
Within the local community, Phil is involved with the Stone District Rotary Club, Stone Branch of Royal British Legion, Trustee of the Green Bus, Church Warden at St.Michael & St. Wulfad’s Church and Stone District Scouting Executive Committee.
