Boy, 3, fighting for life after ‘falling in’ Pensby swimming pool

Two air ambulances landed on the grounds of a Wirral school

A three-year-old boy is fighting for his life after falling into a swimming pool, police have said. Emergency services descended on Irby Road in Pensby on Tuesday, March 17, after a report was received at around 12.55pm that a child had fallen into a swimming pool.

Two air ambulances landed at Pensby High School on the same road, while Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service rushed to the scene. The boy was taken to hospital by ambulance.

In an update form the police force today, Wednesday, March 18, a spokesperson said the three-year-old boy is in a critical condition following the incident yesterday.

Officers continue to support the family and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

Pensby High School confirmed in an email to parents and carers that the air ambulances had landed on the school’s grounds but all children were safe.

The Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a three-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital following a concern for safety in Pensby.

“We received a report from North West Ambulance Service that the child had fallen into a swimming pool at around 12.55pm yesterday (Tuesday, March 17) and emergency services, including paramedics and officers, attended the scene on Irby Road.

“The child was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition. Officers continue to support the family and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.”
