A spokeswoman for the museum said: “Bamber’s distinctive eye created engaging and striking images that capture an ordinary moment in an extraordinary way.”

Bamber had a long career as a press photographer for some of the biggest national papers including The Sun, The Guardian and the Daily Mail.

“Bamber captured a rapidly changing world with insight and humour,” the spokeswoman added.

Bamber lived in Brighton and the city and its people feature in many photographs including the seafront, the Royal Pavilion and the dramatic Victorian sewers.

The exhibition opens on April 1 and will be on display until September 3.
