Scores of villagers turned out in support for the second annual Burnham Pride event on Saturday.

There were rainbow dresses, flamboyant heels and hair, colourful shirts and an overall sense of happiness and community as people gathered to celebrate diversity and inclusion at host venue Burnham Royal British Legion.

Rainbow flags were flying high and proud along Gore Road, with organiser Ellis Brickley, Burnham Royal British Legion club secretary, pulling out all the stops to ensure this all-day event was a success.

Supporting the event were several local dance acts from Creative Academy and singers who stunned with their live vocals such as Soulful Sisters and Kenan Kián.

They shared the stage with other well-known performers who recently appeared at Pride in London.

Local groups such as Buckinghamshire Scouts, South Bucks Liberal Democrats and other local councillors, also gave their support, with information on their organisations’ inclusive policies and campaigns.

The option of free face painting had people queuing up to have glitter in their hair or sparkles on their face and there was food and drink to enjoy.

“It really was a great day,” said Ellis. “My highlight was definitely Homoparody featuring a Creative Academy dance routine, they were just phenomenal!”

Homoparody is a dance group set-up during lockdown. Its aim was to recreate iconic music videos for charity, to teach dance and bring people together through music.

Founder David Allwood – who has been named Mr Gay Great Britain – was also at Burnham Pride.

He said on social media he ‘had so much fun performing our new Homoparody set at Burnham Pride today with the students from Creative Academy’.

After putting together a celebration with a stellar line-up that everyone could enjoy, the event team thanked everyone for all their support and input.

“The evening was just as fantastic as the day,” said Ellis.

“Luna Cortez performed two amazing drag sets and then we danced the night away with the disco.”

Ellis hopes to make Burnham Pride an annual event at the Burnham Royal British Legion and is looking forward to next year already.
