Buy your Christmas stamps this weekend to save £4.80

Standard first class stamps will go up from £1.35 to £1.65 from Monday 7 October – a rise of 22%. A large first class stamp goes up even more, from £2.10 to £2.60 – a rise of 24%. Stock up now with stamps for Christmas and you could save yourself £4.80 on two books of 8.

The cost of many of Royal Mail’s ‘Signed For’, ‘Special Delivery Guaranteed’ and ‘Tracked’ services will also increase from the 7 October, as will the cost of sending parcels by first and second class.

For those who aren’t in a hurry, second class stamp prices remain unchanged – you’ll still pay 85p for a standard one and £1.55 for large.

If getting to a store to buy them in time is tricky, most supermarkets let you add them to your online order.

Can I still use non-barcoded stamps?

Since Monday 31 July 2023 you’re no longer able to use non-barcoded stamps. If you’ve got stamps tucked away in your drawer that you don’t think you’ll get round to using before the deadline, you can swap them for the new ones using Royal Mail’s ‘Swap Out’ scheme. Visit the Royal Mail site to download the Stamp Swap Out Form, print it out and fill it in. For up to £200 worth of stamps, send the form and the stamps free of charge by writing Freepost SWAP OUT on the envelope. To swap out more than £200 worth of stamps, there’s a separate form that you can send to:

Royal Mail
Swap Out
Tallents House
21 South Gyle Crescent
Edinburgh
EH12 9PB.

Don’t have a printer? You can request that the Stamp Swap Out Form is sent to you by completing this form online or pick one up from your local Post Office. However, the Post Office won’t be able to swap your stamps for you.
