Camilla carries out her first audience as Queen Consort | News UK Video News

Camilla has carried out her first audience in her role as Queen Consort.

She met with Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho in the Regency Room at Buckingham Palace on Thursday morning.

Wearing a poppy, alongside the Queen Mother’s oval rock crystal and diamond art deco brooch, she and Mr Coelho could both be seen beaming in pictures released of their meeting.

Her Majesty is a noted book-lover and a passionate advocate of encouraging children to read. She has even set up her own Reading Room online book club.

She holds more than six patronages related to literature, including the National Literacy Trust and the Book Trust, and has presented the prestigious Booker Prize in past years.

Mr Coelho, whose tenure as Children’s Laureate runs from 2022-2024, succeeded Dame Cressida Cowell in the prestigious post in July.

A performance poet, playwright and children’s author, Mr Coelho’s acclaimed works include his Luna Loves… picture books, his dark series of Fairy Tales Gone Bad, and his young adult novel The Girl Who Became a Tree.

Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales visited the seaside town of Scarborough to launch funding to support young people’s mental health.

William and Kate were greeted with cheers as they began the day at The Street – a community hub supporting local organisations to grow and develop their services.

Kate was wearing a camel-coloured overcoat over a similar coloured dress, while William opted for a burgundy jumper under a blue jacket.

The royal couple were in the North Yorkshire resort to engage with local organisations who will benefit from funding which has been created from a collaboration between The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales and the Two Ridings Community Foundation.
