Can you still get deliveries in time for Mother’s Day amid coronavirus chaos?

The Magnificent Mix Hatbox with champagne, £83, Interflora

Thanks to Covid-19 we are in unprecedented times – but that doesn’t mean we want to forget our mums on Mother’s Day.

In case you have been so absorbed by the news that the fact it is almost Mother’s Day has passed you by, let us remind you now that it is this Sunday 22 March.

Many of us will likely now not be able to visit our mothers to take a present in person – but you can still send her something.

Deliveries across many sectors have been hugely delayed by the increase in demand and pressures on the workforce (as you’ll know if you’ve tried to order a supermarket delivery) but there are some stores still able to fulfill internet orders ahead of Mother’s Day.

Many shops that usually offer next day or same day delivery still advertise that on their homepage, but when we continued through to the payment stage, next day delivery was not actually available, with some offering deliveries more than 7 days later.

Remember that with the number of people self-isolating growing by the day, things could change – it will pay to be both flexible and forgiving if your plan does not come through after all.

Here are a selection of stores still offering next day delivery and some that can no longer fulfill orders.

STILL AVAILABLE FOR MOTHER’S DAY DELIVERY

John Lewis is offering next day delivery for £6.95, with slots still available for Saturday 21 and Sunday 22.

Asos is offering next day delivery for £5.95, though you’ll have to be quick – they do not deliver on Sundays. If you order today, you will have your gift delivered between 7am and 10pm on Saturday 21 March.

Interflora is currently still offering both same day and Mother’s Day delivery for all of their bouquets and gifts.

At Marks & Spencer you can buy a nice selection of Mother’s Day bouquets or plants, supplemented with champagne, chocolates or sweets, all with free next day delivery or Mother’s Day delivery.

On clothing and gifts, order by midnight for next day delivery at £3.99 or by 11pm to collect in store the next day.

NOT AVAILABLE FOR MOTHER’S DAY DELIVERY

Very have a note on the website offering next day delivery via click and collect, but on the products we tried to buy, the service was not available. The earliest delivery date offered at checkout was for a standard delivery on Tuesday 24 March, at a cost of £3.99. Check individual products for delivery availability.

Notonthehighstreet does not list a blanket delivery policy as they work with multiple small businesses and each has its own delivery policy. However, they do ask for patience from customers at this time saying:

‘Our small businesses and the delivery companies they work with, such as Royal Mail, are doing all they can to meet every delivery date.

‘We are working with our Partners to ensure delivery details (such as the delivery address) are correct at the time of dispatching your order but there may be some instances of late order arrivals due to circumstances outside of our Partners’ control.

‘We ask for your understanding and patience at this unprecedented time – and know that by doing so you are truly supporting a small creative business.’

Amazon.co.uk, usually the go-to option for last-minute gifts, is listing nothing in their Mother’s Day gifts section that has a delivery before Monday. They do not have a specific Mother’s Day policy – check individual items for details.

Mother’s Day hampers that should be available for next day delivery from The British Hamper company (britishhamper.com) are now set to be delivered on 24 March.

Moonpig is too late for Mother’s Day deliveries – a note on their website says to order gifts for delivery next week.

Hotel Chocolat continues to advertises next day delivery, but when checkout is attempted, the first available date is 7 days away.

For more individual suppliers, please check the company website.
