A big fire at the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Chester Road was tackled by some 50 firefighters
A fire which broke out at Jaguar Land Rover’s landmark Castle Bromwich plant started accidentally, it has been confirmed.
West Midlands Fire Service was alerted to a blaze at the JLR site off Chester Road, near Castle Vale, yesterday morning, Tuesday, June 24.
It sent eight fire engines, three 4X4 brigade response vehicles and a hydraulic platform to the scene at around 8.15am.

Some 50 firefighters from Ward End, Sheldon, Aston, Perry Barr, Hay Mills, Highgate, Handsworth, Smethwick, and Solihull stations. tackled the blaze. Smoke billowing from the plant could be seen for miles around.
The fire activated the sites sprinkler system and crews tackled it wearing breathing apparatus.
The fire was extinguished at around 9.45am and the site was ventilated to clear the smoke.
The incident was then scaled to three crews and brigade response shortly after 11am.
West Midlands Fire Service said the blaze was not believed to have been caused deliberately.
It said: “Fire investigations at the scene have concluded. It’s believed this fire started accidentally.”
A JLR spokesperson said: “West Midlands Fire Service attended a fire in a block at our Castle Bromwich site on Tuesday morning.
“The incident was resolved quickly with no reported injuries. Fire teams remained at the scene to support investigations.”
