Charity game played in memory of popular club footballer and postman Jason Ginnelly

Holy Trinity FC gained revenge on the Royal Mail Newark, in a rematch of a charity game.

The match was held in memory of Jason Ginnelly who played and was player manager for Holy Trinity and worked as a postman.

The match was played at the YMCA in Newark on Sunday.

The result was 8 – 6 in Trinity’s favour, with two goals being scored in the last few minutes.

Trinity’s match team was put together by Bob Briggs Price, and was a mixture of past and present players — as Trinity All Stars.

One player came over from Ireland especially to play — and others travelled to Newark too.

Both Bob and Brendon Richardson, from Royal Mail, spoke after the match and agreed that it was a testimony to Jason’s popularity, that so many had come along to support the day.

Jason died in 2017 aged 42.

After the match there was a barbecue held at The Holy Trinity Community Centre and a raffle with donated prizes from local people and businesses.

The day raised more than £1,100, which will be donated to Reach, a registered Charity supporting more than 200 people with learning disabilities in Nottinghamshire and will specifically assist with the running of its café on Balderton Playing Fields, where Trinity and many other local teams play football.

Jason’s mum Sue said: “Hopefully this will raise awareness of its work and generate income to support that work.

“A big Thank you to everyone that was involved in anyway.”
