Charlie Robertson’s Wimbledon dream comes true with maiden Junior win

The 16-year-old, who trains at the LTA’s National Academy in Stirling, was handed an opening round draw against Czech junior Jakub Filip, with the Dundee player making his first ever appearance at the All England Club.

And in the opening match on Court 4 on Saturday, Robertson delivered a stylish performance in a 6-4 6-2 victory that saw him progress to the second round.

He said: “I’ve been here before, but this is my first time playing on the outdoor courts. I just loved it!

“It’s unbelievable to win my first match at Wimbledon. To go on and have another chance to play again, it’s just amazing honestly. I can’t wait to get back out on the court.

“It’s surreal to do that. It’s my first time playing out on that court and honestly I loved every second of it –  I’m just absolutely buzzing, to be honest.”

It was a comprehensive victory from Robertson, who broke serve four times while dropping his own serve just once and hit an impressive total of 20 winners compared to just five from Filip.

The Brit will have to wait to see who plays in the next round – with eighth seed Joao Fonseca his likely next opponent – but he credited strong support from his support team for getting him through to that stage.

“I had my coach behind me and my family there,” added Robertson.

“That just sort of relaxed me a little bit and honestly on every point, I was just focused. I’m just really happy with my result.”
