AN eBay seller is raking it in flogging rare bottles of original full-sugar Irn-Bru at £15 each.
The mystery punter has already made £465 from sales of 31 of the limited 1901 edition drinks to fans — seven times the shop price.
The bottles are flying off shelves and sugar lovers are turning to the auction site to get their hands on AG Barr’s “old and improved” retro recipe.
On top of that they’re willing to spend a fiver on doorstep delivery.
The 118-year-old revamped recipe has more sugar than the original which was axed after last year’s health tax was introduced. But it is caffeine free.
Irn-Bru fans hail new sugar-filled 1901 version as ‘glorious’ after makers AG Barr release limited edition juice
Demand for ‘Scotland’s other national drink’ is so high the last nine 75cl bottles left online could fetch £135.
The website blurb from user ‘gameguruhere’ says: “Irn-Bru 1901 full sugar. High sugar. Brand new. Scotland seller. Condition is new.
“Dispatched 1st class by Royal Mail. Highly anticipated fresh stock with full date. Comes in glass bottle. Will be carefully wrapped when posted. Listing is for 1 x glass bottle.”
The revamped recipe, unveiled by founder Robert Barr’s great-grandson Robin, contains 10.6g of sugar per 100ml, compared to the original’s 10.3g.
An Irn-Bru spokesman said: “The reaction to our limited edition has been phenomenal. We don’t set retail prices, but we were expecting it to sell for around £2 for a glass bottle.”
Bru lovers were furious when AG Barr more than halved the sugar content to 4.7g last April and replaced it with sweeteners. More than 50,000 signed a petition demanding a U-turn.
