Rubbish collection days will be changing no matter where you live in Wales
Christmas and New Year festivities are fast approaching for people all over Wales, and everyone is eagerly anticipating a well-deserved break – refuse collectors included. Over the period, rubbish collection dates will be altered wherever you live in Wales.
Councils nationwide have issued notices detailing the changes residents can anticipate during the weeks surrounding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Here, we’ve compiled them all to provide a quick reference guide for when you should put your bins out in the coming days and weeks. The Bulky Household Waste and Garden Waste collections will be suspended from December 19, 2025 and will restart on the week commencing January 5, 2026.

Neath Port Talbot
The council shared on Facebook: “We recognise that there will be more waste at Christmas.
“A lot of the extra waste can be recycled, and there is no limit to the amount of recycling you can present. Please recycle what you can.
“If you produce more non-recyclable waste for collection immediately after Christmas you can put out up to three extra black bags on your refuse collection day between December 27 to January 7.
“During this time only, residents should present not more than 1 wheeled bin with three black bags next to their bin or, the equivalent for houses without wheeled bins, a maximum of six black bags on your refuse collection day.
“To ensure that we can collect from all households and limit delays, we may not be able to collect more than three extra black bags.
“Normal restrictions will resume on January 8.” More information is available via the bin day calendar here.
Newport
The waste and recycling service will operate with normal working hours until December 25, 2025 where there will be no service.
Collections will resume on December 26 but will be collecting one day late, collections will take place on Friday and Saturday.

Collections will resume on January 2, 2026, but will be collecting one day late, collections will take place Friday and Saturday.
Pembrokeshire
There will be no waste and recycling collections on Christmas Day (Thursday 25 December), Boxing Day (Friday 26 December) or New Year’s Day (Thursday 1 January).
- Collections due Thursday 25 December (Christmas Day) will be collected 2 days later on Saturday 27 December.
- Collections due Friday 26 December (Boxing Day) will be collected 2 days later on Sunday 28 December
Powys
Christmas Week
Collections days for the first three days of Christmas week (up to and including Wednesday 24 December) will be as normal. Collections for last two days of the week (Thursday 25 and Friday 26 December) will be two days later than normal, with crews planning on working over the weekend.

The council posted on Facebook: “During the week commencing December 23 some refuse and recycling collections will be two days later than usual collection days.
“During the week commencing December 30 some refuse and recycling collections will be one day later than usual collection days.
“From December 30 to January 17, households will be able to place six black bags out on their collection day.
“Recycling collections will continue to be unlimited on a weekly basis. If you are unsure what you can recycle this Christmas, take a look at our online A-Z guide.
“We will be collecting Christmas trees from designated collection points again from Monday, January, 13 to Saturday, January 25.
“Alternatively, they can be taken to a HWRC without an appointment, or garden waste subscribers can chop their tree down and book a winter garden waste collection.”

Which means…
