An appeal was issued for cards to be sent to wheelchair bound Jack Moore who has an array of health issues, including cerebral palsy, epilepsy and complex learning disabilities.
Christmas-loving Jack, who is non-verbal fed via a tube, lives with his mum and dad with 24/7 care and help from district nurses.
For the last few years his family has appealed for cards to bring a smile to his face and brighten his room during the festive season and this year his parents have been overwhelmed by the response.
A total of 1,091 cards were received for Jack – well exceeding last year’s total of 724.
His mum Paula Moore said: “We would like to thank everyone who took the time to send Mr Jack a card and make his Christmas very special.”
She said Jack’s room has been full of cards this Christmas – adding: “He received cards from all over the country, cards made by very young children and very elderly, as old as 89-years-old.”
She told how Jack, who attended Chadsgrove special school in Bromsgrove until he was 18, had received cards from the Mayor, councillors and schools and from people overseas as far away as the USA, Canada and India.
Mrs Moore said many of the cards sent “had such beautiful words, poems, messages that have made us cry” and she added: “We have never seen so many cards.”
She thanked all those who sent cards, shops that promoted the appeal and The Laurels in Colley Gate which took delivery of the cards as well as Royal Mail staff for delivering them and she added: “From the bottom of our hearts we thank each and every one that send cards and made Mr Jack’s Christmas so special.”
She said the Guinness Book of Records has been contacted to see if the appeal was the largest of its kind locally.
