Christmas last post dates: Do Royal Mail deliver on Christmas Eve? | UK | News

The presents have been wrapped and the final greetings cards have been signed. And with just two days to go, many people will face a rush to send off their gifts and Christmas messages before the big day. The deadline for second class mail has already passed but will your parcel arrive on Christmas Eve?

Do Royal Mail deliver on Christmas Eve?

Royal Mail doesn’t usually deliver or collect on bank holidays and public holidays.

Christmas Eve, or December 24, will see Royal Mail staff make normal deliveries and Christmas collections.

However, there will be no deliveries or collections on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

Normal deliveries then resume on December 27.

There will also be no deliveries or collections on New Year’s Day.

When are other last Christmas postal dates?

DPD’s last shipping date for domestic deliveries is December 23.

For next day service, Hermes’ last posting date for Christmas is noon on Sunday, December 22.

For DHL, the last posting date for Christmas is December 23 in the UK.

How do the Royal Family spend Christmas Eve?

The Royal Family spend the Christmas period with the Queen and Prince Philip at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

On Christmas Eve, The Royal Family lay out their presents on trestle tables and will exchange their gifts at teatime.

The Queen and her family then have a candle-lit dinner with the ladies in jewels and gowns and the men in black tie.

Christmas weather forecast

Looking ahead to the weather for Christmas week, the UK is expected to see sunny but chilly spells, according to the Met Office.

The weather will turn “more unsettled through Boxing Day with rain and strong winds pushing east”.

The agency added: “By Friday cloudy and mild, with rain mostly across the northwest.”

Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office Dan Suri said: “For Christmas week there are signs of a quieter spell of weather and slightly colder temperatures for many, though some parts of the UK can still expect some unsettled weather on Monday or Tuesday.”
