Clever knitters create Postman Pat character to mark Dersingham Post Office re-opening

Clever knitters have been hard at work creating a cheerful post box cover to celebrate the re-opening of a village Post Office.

Dersingham Knit and Natter members have taken inspiration from the children’s book character, Postman Pat, to decorate a mail box top.

Their efforts celebrate the opening today of the new Post Office counter in the newsagents.

The Post Office branch at Dersingham News on Hunstanton Road was previously at Post Office Road and has new opening hours of 8am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturday.

News of its re-opening was announced in July and was welcomed at the time by villagers, the parish council and North West Norfolk MP James Wild.

The relocation of Royal Mail’s sorting office led to the previous postmaster Fraser Lindsay and wife Maria, deciding to calling it a day after losing income as a result of Royal Mail’s decision to withdraw mail workers from the branch and relocate them to Lynn and Hunstanton.
