Clifton coffee shop The Foliage Cafe says it’s ‘not going anywhere’

But it will stop serving its beloved brunch menu

A cafe in Clifton says rising cotsts is behind its decision to stop serving it much-loved brunch at weekend. It follows a month-long trial of weekend closures at The Foliage Cafe in Regent Street.

Now bosses have told customers it would ‘not be going anywhere’, when the team issued an ‘important update’ on the coffee shop’s future.

They shared the changes that are being made to service, including the axing of one element due to ‘rising costs’. The Instagram post said: “After almost seven wonderful years, we’ve made the difficult decision to stop serving brunch at our cafe.

“This choice didn’t come easy. We’ve tried our best to navigate rising costs, but unfortunately it’s no longer sustainable for us to continue offering our food menu without compromising the quality you deserve.

“We tried closing weekends for a month first but that wasn’t helping and it wasn’t fair for people working Monday to Friday! So now as you noticed we are open seven days a week again and this will be it.

“We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s ordered meals with us over the years – from your morning favourites to your weekend treats. Your support has meant everything. The good news: We’re not going anywhere!

“We’ll continue serving the drinks, coffee, and treats you love, and we look forward to spending many more moments with you in our cosy little space. Thank you for understanding, and thank you for being part of our journey.”

Fans were quick to share their thoughts on the news and support for the cafe. One said: “Best place in Clifton for coffee and community.”

A second wrote: “Must have been a very difficult decision. See you soon for lots more coffee!” While a third commented: “Sad news, but brave decision.”

Foliage Cafe, which is dog-friendly and offers takeaway and sit in services, announced in October it would be closing on weekends, writing that the change would help to keep the team “doing what they love” and “make sure every visit stays special”.

However an array of comments from fans and loyal locals pointed out that they would love to continue to support this small independent business, but would find it hard to do so going forward, due to many working 9-5 Monday to Friday.
