Collect+ stores to operate Royal Mail bag drop-off service during strike action

Over 1,500 Collect+ stores will have the chance to earn extra commission by handling Royal Mail sealed bags during planned industrial action by the firm.

In confirming the news to betterRetailing.com, Collect+ said it had made selected stores aware via letter or email this week, and given them a courtesy call to ensure they’re clear on the approach, and answer any questions, or provide training.

Strike action is expected to take place on Friday 26 August, Wednesday 31 August, Thursday 8 September and Friday 9 September. On the selected days, via Collect+, Royal Mail account holders who have pre-paid their postage can drop off sealed mail bags to participating stores.

Retailers will have the opportunity to earn £1.50 commission on each seal bag processed. When receiving them, retailers will be required to attach a receipt to the sale order. A Collect+ stapler has been issued to help with the process.

A spokesperson for Collect+ told betterRetailing.com: “The effort will involve around 1,700 Collect+ stores that are located in areas where there is demand from Royal Mail business customers.

“For participating retailers, it’s a good opportunity to earn additional revenue, as they’ll get £1.50 commission for each mail bag processed. And for the Collect+ brand, it’s great for us to play a part in keeping mail moving for the millions of SMEs across the UK who rely on this vital service.”
