Communication breakdown between Royal Mail and Post Office over Darlington post box

A brand new Darlington post box has caused a communication breakdown – with the Post Office insisting it is out of order and Royal Mail claiming otherwise.

The post box outside Mowden Park Post Office has been installed for a “few days”, but the branch claims a problem has already been identified with it.

Writing on Facebook, the post office said: “Royal Mail have told us there is a problem with their brand new post box outside the post Office at Mowden. It’s only been installed for a few days!

“Please be aware that Royal Mail haven’t put a sign on it to say it’s not working. They are an entirely different company to Post Office, so please direct any complaints to the depot on Victoria Road, Darlington.”

However, Royal Mail has said it is not aware of any issues with the post box, and an engineer will investigate the issue.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We’re not aware of issues with this postbox, so our engineering team will investigate shortly.”

The post office said customers can continue to drop letters and parcels inside the store.

“We also have an extra collection on Mondays around 11am. Saturday’s collection is around 12 noon.”
