Concern As Irish Passports Reported Missing In Post

Irish passports belonging to a number of people in the west Tyrone area have reportedly went missing in the post, sparking concerns over their safe and timely delivery.

A distribution issue appears to be emerging when newly issued passports are transferred from An Post, the Irish mail service, to Royal Mail.

SDLP MLA Daniel McCrossan said a number of constituents from Strabane have voiced their concerns over missing documents.

He said: “After contacting officials, it seems that the passports in each case were delivered by An Post to Royal Mail and have subsequently become lost in the system.

“This is obviously very serious; these are sensitive documents with personal information. It’s a significant concern that it has happened to a number of people in a relatively short space of time.

“This needs to be resolved quickly. People should have confidence that their travel documents will be delivered safely. I will be raising the matter with Royal Mail urgently.”
